Ronald lived his dream of building a majestic home in the north woods of Minnesota after he retired. He spent his time cutting trees into log siding and boards to construct his home. Ronald liked to overbuild things so they were solid and would last, and his house reflects that ethos from foundation to roof! The family still has their dad’s drawings, draft layouts, and pictures taken as he built his home so anyone can see the inner workings of the construction process. He loved open views and internal lofts, so he designed his house to absorb its surroundings from the inside by installing lots of windows, dormers, and peaks.
This custom home and barn sit on nearly 80 acres of woods, wetlands, and hay meadows. The deer hunting is fantastic as the deer emerge from the woods to graze in his hay fields in the evening. Ronald picked this particular land to build his home on because it offered exceptional deer hunting and world class fishing opportunities.
The home is currently 2-bedroom 2-bath with the possibility of expanding and finishing the interior into whatever YOU desire. Unfortunately, Ronald was not able to see his project to full completion, but this is your opportunity to put the finishing touches on this magnificent home to your liking. The septic system is compliant with Cass County regulations and is designed for a 4-bedroom home. The water well was installed in 2012 and is a 4” drilled well, 60 feet deep. This home features insulated concrete form (ICF) foundation walls, foam insulation, engineered floor joists and radiant floor heat along with a very efficient wood burning stove to enjoy on those wonderful winter nights after snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing or ice fishing . Other features of this one of a kind log home include:
• Great room with vaulted ceiling, tile entry & hardwood floor.
• Master ground level bedroom with lots of windows, sliding glass door to east veranda, tile garden tub with walk-in shower.
•Living room with wood burning stove & ¾ guest bath.
•Den with double glass doors to west yard (could be converted to bedroom).
• Large open kitchen with Oak cabinetry, tile floor & granite countertops.
• Upstairs features a large bedroom with vaulted ceiling and hardwood floor. Also, a family/entertainment room with outside access to the “future” second story west deck.
• Full unfinished basement with 8’ walls, egress window and outside access door.
• Solid 46’x26’ barn with good metal roof.
• 8 ½’x26’ Chicken coop with fenced run.
• 5 Minute access to Leech Lake.
• 5 Minute access to Heartland Trail & many others.
• Bordered on the north & northwest by Hundreds of acres of state & tax forfeited land.
• Very private setting, yet only 9 miles to all the conveniences that Walker, MN offers.
The Walker area is a year round recreational wonderland offering several area golf courses, miles of hiking & biking trails including the Heartland Trail, the Lake Erin Interpretive Trail, North Country National Scenic Trail, and the Paul Bunyan State Recreational Trail just to name a few. This area is a boater’s paradise! At over 112,000 acres in size, Leech Lake is the ideal destination for all kinds of boating and sailing. Canoeing, kayaking, jet skiing, paddle boarding, water skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing are among the favorite water sports on Leech Lake! If fishing is your passion, Leech Lake and the surrounding area lakes offer some of the finest multi-species fishing opportunities anywhere. Hundreds of pristine Minnesota lakes of all sizes are scattered throughout the area forests, providing excellent fishing for walleyes, pike, muskies, largemouth and smallmouth bass, perch, crappies and sunfish. The Leech Lake area has it all for the seasoned fisherman, as well as for the kid after their first fish. Don’t forget about the winter fishing as well! Walker Lakes Area is an ice fishing paradise. Panfish and walleyes, the big lake or small ones, there is something for everyone who loves ice fishing. Snowmobiling in the Walker area is as wonderful as the summertime adventures. With hundreds of miles of groomed trails right out the front door, this property is a snowmobiler’s dream.
